Understanding the need
Texas communities are getting more and more expensive, putting the promise of Texas out of reach for long-time residents and new Texans alike. As costs rise, our state risks losing its status as a destination for families hoping to build a life and the entrepreneurs and creators hoping to build our future.
Complicated laws, regulatory red tape, and outdated rules are preventing our communities from meeting our needs today โ let alone for tomorrow. Texas needs a better framework that puts people first, with governments that are efficient and effective and a right to build for those aspiring to meet their communityโs needs.

Texans for Housing advances bipartisan policy solutions that expand housing choice and reduce barriers to building homes across Texas. โWe focus on statewide and municipal reforms that shape what gets built and where. By promoting practical data driven housing policy, we work to create attainable housing options and support more sustainable communities for all Texans.

According to the 2026 TAAHP survey, 60% of Texans say their housing costs have increased over the past year, and 80% want housing to be a priority in the next legislative session. ๐๏ธ
The message is clear: Texans want action on housing affordability. As we look ahead to the 2027 legislative session, itโs more important than ever to support policies that expand housing options and make housing more affordable across our state! ๐

Houston, we have a housing gap!
We need more choices beyond single-family homes and townhomes. โMissing middleโ housingโlike duplexes, fourplexes, and small apartment buildingsโcan create more options for people at every stage of life.
For young adults finding their footing, families needing room to grow, and older neighbors looking to downsize, more housing choices can mean more opportunities to find a home that fits their needs and budget.
With groceries, transportation, childcare, and other expenses stretching household budgets, we need solutions that make housing more affordable and accessible.
Houstonโs Livable Places reforms are a step toward welcoming more of these housing options. Letโs build on that progress and make room for more neighbors.

Park(ing) Day Houston was a success!
195 Houstonians joined us to reimagine how parking spaces can better serve people, neighborhoods, and our city.
We were excited to welcome Council Members Mario Castillo and Joe Panzarella, State Representative Christina Morales, and organizations from across Houston working on housing, transportation, public health, planning, and urbanism.
A huge thank you to everyone who showed up, participated, and helped bring Park(ing) Day to life. This is what building momentum for parking reform looks like.
